What does a Smartflow water softener system mean for your home?
With a water softener system from Filter-Online, your tap water will reach the recommended water hardness of 4-6 degrees - you will have "soft" water. The extent of descaling will thus be reduced to an absolute minimum. Deposits will still be visible after long periods without cleaning, but it will be significantly easier to keep down stubborn limescale without harsh cleaning agents and hours of work.
Why do we recommend maintaining 4-6 degrees of hardness in the softened water?
The Smartflow water softener system can in principle supply water with 0 degrees of hardness, due to our large resin volume of 11 and 22 litres, but we always recommend that the system is set to 4-6 degrees of hardness in the softened water due to the following reasons: Very soft water may have a flat and dull taste due to no mineral content. It can be difficult to rinse off soap from your hands and your body and from clothes in the washing machine with very soft water. If you have old iron pipes in your house, there may be a risk of corrosion at less than 6 degrees of hardness in the softened water. Water with 6 degrees of hardness is referred to as "soft" water. You will experience a significant reduction of limescale deposits, less consumption of soap and shampoo as well as a significantly extended lifespan of household appliances etc.
In Denmark, the calcium content of water is measured in German degrees of hardness (°dH), which is divided into levels according to how hard the water is:

What should I be aware of when installing a water softener system?
The water softener system must be installed right after the water meter where the water enters the house. You should be aware that there must be a floor drain and an electrical outlet near the place where the water softener system is to be installed. Are you unsure about anything? Ask a plumber for advice and let him find out if the system can be installed at your place. A water softener system must be installed by an authorised plumber.
What is soft water?
Soft water contains little or no calcium. In some places in Denmark, soft water (water with a very low concentration of calcium) is found naturally because there is not much calcium in the soil layers. For example, this is the case in the sandy soils in West Jutland. In countries such as Sweden and Germany, calcium has been removed from the water for several years without any problems.
Can I feel the difference on my skin and in my clothes?
Clothes become much softer when washed in non-calcareous water. It is the calcium content in the water that makes the clothes stiff after washing. You can also feel it on your skin as calcium settles like a layer on your body, making it harder for your moisturiser to penetrate. After a bath in soft water, your skin absorbs your favourite lotion better and the skin's natural oils are retained.
