Q & A - Ocher kit

Are you in doubt about what an ocher kit can do and whether it is something for you and your household? So just read this Q & A

1. What is an ocher kit?

An ocher kit consists of two to three filter housings, each with its own filter, which has their own filtration properties which together create a good and efficient general filtration of the drinking water.
You get clearer and cleaner water, that can give a nice extra touch to your coffee and gives happier flowers.
Ocher is a naturally occurring soil type, which can be yellow, red or brown. Ocher is basically not dangerous to humans, but it leaves some ugly stains on the bathroom, colors the white laundry yellow and then it just is not inviting to drink.

To reduce ocher you can use an ocher kit. An ocher kit is a filtration set used to filter drinking water for both private and business use.

2. Where to mount it?

An ocher kit is mounted at the water entrance to the house. If you have your own well drill, the kit can also be mounted in the well. However, it is important to protect the kit from frost. Since the fitler houses otherwise risk bursting when the water freezes.

3. What do the filters do?

The first filter Vana Depth at 5µm acts as a pre-filter that reduces the most common dirt and larger particles from the water.
The next filter Vana Pleat of 0.35µm is a surface filter, also called ocher filter, as this is where most ocher and microplastic are retained.

The last filter is the Vana AC filter, an activated carbon filter. Activated carbon filter is a little different from the other filters as it absorbs the last impurities like some kind of pesticides, bad taste and smell from the water.

4. How effective are the filters?

The filters in the ocher kit have an efficiency of between 85 and 90%.
The depth filter and the surface filter have an efficiency of 90%
The activated carbon filter has an efficiency of 85%

5. How often should the filters be changed?

As a rule of thumb, the filters must be changed every 6 months to prevent bacteria from forming in the filters, which are passed on to the drinking water. It may happen that the filters should be changed more often if you find that the filters stops faster than 6 months.

6. Do you come and mount the kit??

Unfortunately, we do not have the opportunity to mount ocher kits. For this we recommend an authorized plumber. However, we are always helpful with answers to questions and guidance by phone.

7. Are replacement filters stock item?

Yes, we usually have all the replacement filters in stock. However, we may experience delays from our supplier or be sold out. But we usually have in stock and at least always new filters on the way home to the warehouse.

8. What's in the kit??

Two types of ocher kits are available. With or without activated carbon.

Without activated carbon included:
2 pcs. filter housings in food-grade plastic with a transparent bottom, so you can always see the filters.
1 piece. double nipple in ¾ ”in PVC to put between the filter housings.
1 piece. Vana Depth 5µm filter. A depth filter that is mounted in the first filter housing, where the water enters.
1 piece. Vana Pleat 0.35µm filter. A surface filter that is mounted in filter housing number 2.
2 pcs. wall bracket incl. screws mounted on top of the filter housings. There are holes on the filter housing for the bracket.

Activated carbon comes with:
3 pieces. filter housings in food-grade plastic with a transparent bottom, so you can always see the filters.
2 pcs. double nipple in ¾ ”in PVC to put between the filter housings.
1 piece. Vana Depth 5µm filter. A depth filter that is mounted in the first filter housing, where the water enters.

9. What order should the filters be mounted in and why?

In the first filter housing where the water enters, insert the Vana Depth 5µm filter. It's the filter that looks like a paper towel. This filter acts as a protector so the next filters can do their job most efficiently.
In the next filter housing mounted the ocher filter Vana Pleat of 0.35µm. It looks a bit like an old pleated lampshade with a blue bottom and top.

Finally, the activated carbon filter is mounted.

The filters cannot be reversed incorrectly.

10. Can you mount an ocher kit yourself?

Basically, an ocher kit is not difficult to install, but since it is mounted on the already existing water pipes, we recommend that you use an authorized plumber to help with the installation. No two water installations are the same in most homes. Therefore, it is not certain that we have all the necessary fittings, but a plumber can be helpful.

11. How do I open the filter housing when the filters need to be replaced?

The filter housings are mounted so that the filter head itself is fixed, but you can screw the bottom of the filter housing to change the filters. To do this, use the included key. The key is moved from the bottom of the filter housing up to the thread at the top of the filter housing. When you sense the key, can not get any further, you turn gently but firmly counterclockwise.

An ocher kit removes lime larger than 0.35µm. However, since lime is dissolved in water, it requires a softener to remove lime. A softening system, such as our Smartflow, can be set to how much lime may pass into the water to the house. It is important to keep some lime in the water.
You can read more about this on the page about softeners.

14. Should I choose with or without activated carbon filter?

If you experience problems with bad taste and smell, as well as any kind of pesticides or just want the best filtration of your water, we recommend choosing with activated carbon.
If you do not experience problems with the above, you can use the ocher putty with two filter housings and still get a good result.

15. What size ocher kit should I choose?

What size you need depends on how much flow you need. As a rule of thumb, one faucet uses approx. 12-15 l/min. If, for example, you are a family of two people, you will be able to use the ocher kit 9 ¾” at 28 l/min. Finally, contact us if you are in doubt about which size fits your specific needs.
