Chlorine can irritate your eyes and skin
If you or your children have previously struggled with red eyes in connection with bathing in your swimming pool, it is often due to chlorine. This can either be due to the addition of too much chlorine or because you or your children cannot tolerate chlorine.
If this is the case - then you may have already switched to using a chlorinator or in Danish - a chlorine generator/chlorinator. If not - then it may be the right thing to do, to avoid too much chlorine in the water.
Chlorinator – Chlorine generation using salt
There are countless types of chlorinators on the market - both for what you can call "hobby pools" from e.g. Bestway and Intex and right up to the large professional pools. What they all have in common is that they convert the salt in the water into chlorine using electrolysis. In this way, you avoid having to stand and add chlorine and possibly be exposed to chlorine fumes - but not least, you and your other bathers will avoid getting red eyes or rashes from the ordinary chlorine in the water.
Salt for the pool & PH value
When you have acquired a chlorinator, the maintenance of your pool becomes a lot easier. At the beginning of the season, you pour in the amount of salt needed for the chlorinator to work.
Filter-Online recommends 4-5 kg of salt per 1000 liters. If you have a pool of 20,000 litres, we recommend that you start by pouring approx. 100 kg. salt in and let it dissolve and then the chlorinator starts.
As with all other things that are added to your pool water, the ph value should always be around 7-7.4. This is due both to the function of the product, but not least for the sake of your own health. If the PH is not adjusted correctly, the generated chlorine does not work optimally.
Pool maintenance with salt chlorinator
Over the course of a pool season, you may experience that the salt content in the pool decreases. This can be due to several things, but will most often be due to playing in the pool - understood in the sense that in this way a lot of water escapes over the edge and you refill the pool with water. In this way, you "dilute" the salt content in the water. It can also be caused by rainwater if you have an outdoor pool - here the concentration of salt is also diluted, the more rainwater gets into your pool water.
When your salt chlorinator reports a low salt content, it is often due to one of the above reasons. Here you can advantageously pour more salt into the pool - although not in the same amount as when the pool was started for the season. Better a little salt at a time than too much.
A salt chlorinator is good enough to make the maintenance of the pool easier, but it is not maintenance-free. There are chlorine-producing cells in the system which must be cleaned at regular intervals. It typically depends on the hardness of the water, how often this needs to be done.
Salt water in the pool gives a soft sensation
When you have adjusted your PH value, added salt and let the chlorinator convert salt into chlorine using electrolysis, you will experience water that feels softer when you bathe in it. Once you try this, it will take a lot to get you away from chlorine generation with salt.
Advantages of chlorine generation using salt
There are plenty of benefits to using salt to generate chlorine for your pool. Here we have listed several of them:
- Maintenance of your pool becomes easier and you can more easily allow yourself to be away from it when you e.g. going on holiday.
- You use significantly fewer chemicals. You should more or less only use products for pH adjustment and salt.
- You save a lot of space on the chemicals you no longer need to have standing.
- Is good for your skin.
- There is no ground chlorine (chloramines) in the water, as this is destroyed by the electrolysis cell.
- You experience softer pool water and do not have the typical strong smell of a swimming pool, as if you used chlorine in granular or liquid form.
- The salt has a purity of 99.8%
- Meets the European standard EN 16401 type A
